Työssä on käytetty tutkimusmenetelmänä kvantitatiiviseen aineistoon perustuvaa empiiristä tutkimusta. Laadittuja portfolioita verrataan keskenään sekä indeksiin prosentuaalisen tuoton, volatiliteetin, Jensenin alfan, Betan, Sharpen luvun sekä ”Worst case – Best case” –skenaarion avulla. Viimeksi mainittu on kirjoittajan itsensä laatima.
The objective of this Bachelor’s thesis is to examine on what kind of results have been obtained by investing in callable bull & bear contracts, those corresponding underlying or directly to index in Helsinki Stock Exchange between 2010 and 2016. Eight shares and certificates with the same underlying asset and as well OMXH25 index have been reviewed. The material for this study has been collected from Commerzbank’s, Kauppalehti’s, Nordnet’s, Yahoo Finance’s, Nordic Growth Market’s, Bank of Finland’s and Investing’s databases.
The study is based on quantitative analysis and has an empirical approach. Composed portfolios have been compared with each other and to index with return percentage, volatility, Jensen’s alpha, Beta and Shapre’s ratio. In addition, the portfolios have been compared with ”Worst case – Best case” scenario which is based on comparison of average return and volatility. The latter is prepared by the author himself.
On the basis of historical results the initial assumptions may be partly ignored. Contrary to assumptions, callable bull contracts has produced better historical returns than stock portfolio or index. Compared to the level of risk, share portfolio was the best investment for the whole period of 2010-2016. Bull portfolio’s risk-return ratio was the best during years 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2015. Share portolios risk-return ratio was the best during year 2016. In 2014, neither bull or stock porfolio made excess earnings when compared to index. Callable bull contracts are successful especially when the market trend is upwards due to the characteristics of certificates.
