The objective of this work was to study the relations between work team’s knowledge management practices and team performance. The work is based on the Knowledge Based View of the Firm, in which knowledge is considered as the main source of competitive advantage of the organisation. According to view the prosperity of the organisation depends on the capability of the organisation to manage, utilize and create knowledge.
Knowledge Management Practices are a bundle of management tools and organisational practices aimed to support systematic and conscious management of knowledge in organisations. The objective of these KM Practices is to increase the effectiveness of knowledge resources and to foster the capability of organisation to create value and innovate.
Work teams are a very common and used practise in today’s organisations to organize and conduct work. The base of this study was formed around nine teams. The aim of this study was to explore the relations between team’s knowledge management practices and team performance. The study which was conducted as quantitative survey research showed that the relations between team’s KM Practices and team performance are challenging to substantiate in a reliable manner. In this study, a reliable connection between team’s KM Practices and team performance was not found.
The current research field of knowledge management is lacking corresponding research about team’s KM Practices and their relations to team performance. The main and the most important outcome of this study is the revelation of a new and significant research gap. This work provides a new perspective to team level knowledge management and opens the way to establish a solid theoretical framework around team level KM Practices and team performance.
