Tiivistelmä
Tämän tutkimuksen tavoitteena on mitoittaa kahdelle erityyppiselle omakotitalolle sähkönjakeluverkosta erillään oleva off-grid-järjestelmä.
The objective of this bachelor’s thesis is to size an off-grid system for two different types of detached houses. The houses are an electrically heated house with an annual energy consumption of 20 MWh and a geothermally heated zero-energy timber house with an annual energy consumption of 7.5 MWh. Research methods used in this thesis are simulation and literature research. In the literature research the focus is on current types of off-grid systems and the investment costs of different energy production systems for off-grid systems. In the simulation solar panels and wind turbines energy production is simulated. With the simulation data and the houses energy consumption data an Excel-based tool is made to reconcile the houses energy consumption and the scaled off-grid systems energy production. The tool is used to find out the variability of energy consumption in different seasons and the size of the off-grid system, It is also used to find out the need for energy storing and how to cover the remaining need for additional energy.
The main result in this thesis is that it is possible to use an off-grid system in a detached house. In off-grid systems it is important to direct the consumption to the hours of production to reduce the size of the system and the need for energy storaging. The systems sized in this thesis are capable of operating self-sustainably through all times of the year, when viewed on an energy basis. At the moment an off-grid system could be a worthy alternative if the investment for integrating to the electrical network is higher than normal. In terms of profitability, it would need a deeper analysis and optimized sizing of the system. If renewable energies production costs keep lowering as they have been, off-grid systems could be a very profitable alternative to the traditional on-grid systems for detached houses.
