Työn tärkein tulos on sähköisenliiketoiminnan aloittamisen mahdollistava kaksivaiheinen tiedonsiirtomalli, jonka ensimmäinen vaihe perustuu jo olemassa olevien tietojärjestelmien, eli Extranet- ja Notes -työpöytien, hyödyntämiseen uudella, aiempaa tehokkaammalla tavalla. Mallin toinen vaihe jakautuu yrityksen sisäisen ja ulkoisen tiedonsiirtoon. Toisen vaiheen keskeinen tulos on ratkaisuehdotus sisäisten ja ulkoisten tietojärjestelmien toimintojen ja tietojen saumattomaksi integroimiseksi toisiinsa, eli tutkimuskohteena olevan yrityksen hankintaverkostoon ja sen erityispiirteisiin sopiva sähköisen kaupankäynnin sovellutus. This master's thesis considers the possibilities of electronic commerce in order to intensify purchasing processes of a company. The research concentrates particularly to theintegration of information systems of purchasing processes of Metso Paper, which is a company that operates in heavy mechanical engineering industry. The principal research method is literature research, which is additionally complemented with empirical case studies that consider the solutions of the electronic purchasing methods that are implemented in practise between Metso Paper and its subcontractor Toijala Works. The aim of this research is to present the re-organisation and management of the company's purchasing network, which includes also the company's subcontractors and the significance of the purchasing strategyto the businesses of the company is also dealt with. The part of this work thatconcerns the information technology concentrates on the planning of the information system that is required in order to begin the electronic business, but not to the implementation of this system in practise. The main result of this research is a two-phased information transfer model, which makes it possible to launchthe utilisation of the electronic business, and the first stage of the model isbased on utilization of the existing information systems such as the work desksof Extranet and Notes, in a new, more effective manner. The second stage of themodel is divided to the internal and external information transfers. The key result of the second stage is the proposal for the seamless integration of the internal and external information systems to the entire operating system, which is the suitable application of the electronic business to the special characteristics of the purchasing network of the company that was the research subject.
