Turvallisuusjohtamisen muutoksen suunnittelu
Pelkonen, Irmeli (2012)
The purpose of this study is to find the most important issues that should be paid attention to when planning and implementing the new safety management model of Stora Enso Oyj. The safety management model consists of ten safety tools and four safety programs. The purpose of them is to lead the company towards the zero accident target by changing the safety culture of the organization.
Initially, theories of change management were studied in order to find out the things to be considered for a successful implementation of the change throughout the whole organization; how to plan the change, how to communicate about it and how it should be implemented. Furthermore, the theories were studied to find the challenges of the change and how the change is accepted in the organization.
The experimental part of this study consists of personal interviews that were carried out at Stora Enso Oyj Imatra, Veitsiluoto, Skutskär and Riga mills. The outcome of the interviews was the information about the greatest challenges and items that need special attention when planning and implementing the new safety management model.
The implementation of the safety tools should be planned carefully and the personnel should be trained to use them. The personnel should have the possibility to participate to the planning and implementation to minimize the resistance to the change. The managers and supervisors play an important role in the change; they should behave in an exemplary way and systematically guide, follow and monitor that the new instructions are followed by the personnel. The worry of the supervisors concerning their growing workload should be taken into account and the management should offer them support and encouragement.
