This bachelor’s thesis studies the economic profitability of small scale solar PV power plant. During the last ten years the prices of solar panels has decreased significantly and people’s interest in small scale production has increased.
The data used in the study is real consumption data from a school, a combined household and a terraced housing company and the production data is collected from a small scale solar PV power plant from Lappeenranta. Power generation profiles are simulated on the basis of material and their compatibility is reviewed with the power consumption profiles. Economic profitability was studied by varying the price of the system, cost of delivered electricity and holding time of the plant.
The self consumption ratio of generated power is crucial for the profitability. Based on the study installing a small scale power plant is not economically profitable with the current prices of solar power systems and electricity energy and transmission without an investment support. In order to become economically profitable the power plants should become hun-dreds of euros cheaper or the price of electricity should rise several cents.
