Acta Universitatis Lappeenrantaensis : 1246 (Lappeenranta-Lahti University of Technology LUT, 12.12.2025)The growing global demand for food, energy, chemicals, and materials has intensified the pressure on natural resources. In this context, biomass residues emerge as a promising alternative for producing energy and bio-based ... -
Valorization of sludge materials after chemical and electrochemical treatment
Acta Universitatis Lappeenrantaensis (Lappeenranta-Lahti University of Technology LUT, 24.10.2022)Wastewater sludge requires effective dewatering, lower metal content, retention of nutrients, and biological stability prior to use for other applications. This thesis presents a comprehensive sludge treatment study by ... -
Value creation for sustainability-oriented innovations: challenges and supporting methods
Acta Universitatis Lappeenrantaensis (Lappeenranta University of Technology, 14.06.2018)Sustainability has become a primary, global-level development target, as the need to balance economic prosperity, looking after the planet and the environment, and social equality have become more evident. To respond to ... -
Value creation in manufacturing industry based on the simulation
Acta Universitatis Lappeenrantaensis (Lappeenranta-Lahti University of Technology LUT, 09.12.2022)Digitalization and globalization challenge companies to remain competitive to survive. Digitalization is disrupting traditional business models and reshaping organizational structures but also offering new opportunities ... -
Value of Information Logistics Integration in Digital Business Ecosystem
Acta Universitatis Lappeenrantaensis (Lappeenranta University of Technology, 18.12.2014)Digital business ecosystems (DBE) are becoming an increasingly popular concept for modelling and building distributed systems in heterogeneous, decentralized and open environments. Information- and communication technology ... -
Value Processingin Organizations - Individual Perceptions in Three Case Companies
Acta Universitatis LappeenrantaensisURN:ISSN:1456-4491 (13.04.2007)Values and value processes are said to be needed in every organization nowadays, as the world is changing and companies have to have something to "keep it together". Organizational values, which are approvedand used by the ... -
Variable speed drive in fan system monitoring
Acta Universitatis Lappeenrantaensis (Lappeenranta University of Technology, 09.12.2013)Fan systems are responsible for approximately 10% of the electricity consumption in industrial and municipal sectors, and it has been found that there is energy-saving potential in these systems. To this end, variable ... -
Variable-speed-drive-based monitoring and diagnostic methods for pump, compressor, and fan systems
Acta Universitatis Lappeenrantaensis (Lappeenranta-Lahti University of Technology LUT, 05.02.2021)Pumps, fans, and compressors account for nearly a third of the global consumption of electricity. Variable-speed drives (VSD) enable energy-efficient capacity control of these devices, and have thus become a common component ... -
Variational ensemble Kalman filtering applied to data assimilation problems in computational fluid dynamics
Acta Universitatis Lappeenrantaensis (Lappeenranta University of Technology, 15.08.2016)One challenge on data assimilation (DA) methods is how the error covariance for the model state is computed. Ensemble methods have been proposed for producing error covariance estimates, as error is propagated in time using ... -
Variational Ensemble Kalman Filtering in Hydrology
Acta Universitatis Lappeenrantaensis (Lappeenranta University of Technology, 26.08.2015)The current thesis manuscript studies the suitability of a recent data assimilation method, the Variational Ensemble Kalman Filter (VEnKF), to real-life fluid dynamic problems in hydrology. VEnKF combines a variational ... -
Vibrations in Rotating Machinery Arising from Minor Imperfections in Component Geometries
Acta Universitatis Lappeenrantaensis (Lappeenranta University of Technology, 21.11.2014)Vibrations in machines can cause noise, decrease the performance, or even damage the machine.
