<description>Dynaaminen liittymä teknisenä ratkaisuna sähköautojen latauksen hallinnassa jakeluverkossa
Arvio, Olli
Liikenteen sähköistyminen on kasvanut nopeasti viime vuosien aikana. Nämä korostuvat erityisesti suurissa latauskeskittymissä, joissa kokonaiskuormitus on moninkertainen. Kokonaisuutena työn tulokset osoittavat, että dynaaminen liittymä on potentiaalinen ratkaisu sähköautojen latauksen hallintaan suurissa latauskeskittymissä tulevaisuudessa. Se mahdollistaa lataustehon säätämisen verkon tilanteen mukaan, mikä suojelee sekä rakennuksien että jakeluverkon komponentteja ikääntymiseltä ja vaurioitumiselta.; The electrification of transport has grown rapidly in recent years. While this development is beneficial for the environment, it creates a load on the distribution network. The research problem is the lack of the capacity of the firm connections and the durability of distribution network components, when the charging demand has increased radically and the demand for electrical power is expected to grow significantly in the coming years. Normally, the solution is to enlarge the electrical connection or strengthen the components of the distribution network, but this requires expensive and large-scale measures. This study investigated the dynamic connection as one solution for managing the load caused by electric car charging. The work reviewed the basics and practical application of the dynamic and flexible connections both in Finland and abroad. In addition, the impacts of electric vehicle charging on connection sizing and the distribution grid were examined. In the process, the study reviewed how a dynamic connection could mitigate these issues. The technical review reveals that, among other things, charging demand and charging current directly affect the temperature and current-carrying capacity of the components of the distribution network. The study particularly highlighted the importance of sizing of main fuses and the impact of charging-induced harmonic currents on cables and transformers. These are particularly emphasized in large-scale charging facilities, where the total load is many times higher. Overall, the results of the work indicate that a dynamic connection is a potential solution for managing electric vehicle charging in large-scale charging facilities in the future. It enables charging power to be adapted according to the network situation, which protects components in both buildings and distribution network from aging and damage.

<title>Modelling of a one-degree-of-freedom self-sensing active magnetic bearing</title>
<link>http://lutpub.lut.fi:80/handle/10024/172678</link>
<description>Modelling of a one-degree-of-freedom self-sensing active magnetic bearing
Pálfi, Levente
This paper investigates the modelling of a one degree-of-freedom self-sensing active magnetic bearing system. Active magnetic bearings support a rotor without a mechanical contact by using electromagnetic forces to levitate the rotor. Such a system removes friction thus removing the need to consider wear and lubrication. Conventional active magnetic bearing systems require a dedicated displacement sensor to measure the position of the rotor. These sensors, however, increase the size, cost and complexity of such a system. The purpose of this thesis is to model a self-sensing alternative where the rotor displacement is estimated from the electrical behaviour of the magnetic actuator instead of being measured directly.&#13;
&#13;
The work first developed a nonlinear dynamic model of a rotor suspended between two opposing electromagnets. This model knows its own rotor position and adjusts itself accordingly. A second model is then developed which employs a flux-based self-sensing system and a Luenberger observer to estimate rotor displacement.&#13;
&#13;
These two models are subjected to two loadcases with one case featuring an excitation force and no initial displacement and the second case featuring the opposite. The results show the models ability to remarkably follow and stabilise the system under in the self-sensing control.

<title>Large-scale industrial heat pumps, technologies and use cases</title>
<link>http://lutpub.lut.fi:80/handle/10024/172677</link>
<description>Large-scale industrial heat pumps, technologies and use cases
Husseini, Naser
A substantial amount of energy globally is utilized for industrial processes. However, a considerable portion of this thermal energy is dispersed as wasted heat. This bachelor's thesis studied the working principles, primary energy sources, and thermodynamic performance of industrial heat pumps. The main focus is on closed cycle heat pumps including vapor compression, cascade, and hybrid configurations but the opened type of heat pumps is shortly described. From the analysis, it is indicated that coupling an absorption cycle with a compression cycle can improve the heat pump performance significantly and achieve the desired temperature lift. According to the current literature and research, the reported maximum temperature achieved is 280 °C. In the European Union the waste heat potential from industry was around 300 TWh per year reported in 2018 not including power generation. Many industrial sectors only demand process heat below 200 °C, which makes these sectors very suitable for heat pump utilization. &#13;
&#13;
The food and beverage sector receives special attention in this regard, due to the reason that heat pumps were able to save energy up to 77 % and reduce CO₂ emission considerably. The selection of refrigerants is also discussed and considered in a way relative to the influence on temperature lift and how much improvement in the coefficient of performance (COP) can be achieved. The thesis concludes that industrial heat pumps, predominantly hightemperature and cascade systems, offer a technically important pathway for industrial decarbonization. Additionally, the challenges that accompany the integration of heat pumps such as high initial costs and integration complexity are discussed.; Merkittävä osa maailman energiasta käytetään teollisiin prosesseihin. Kuitenkin suuri osa tästä energiasta poistuu prosesseista hukkaenergiana lämpönä. Tämä kandidaatintutkielma tutki teollisten lämpöpumppujen toimintaperiaatteita, ensisijaisia energialähteitä ja termodynaamista suorituskykyä. Tarkastelu keskittyi suljettuihin järjestelmiin kuten kompressori-, kaskadi-, sekä hybridijärjestelmiin, mutta myös avoimia järjestelmiä käsitellään työssä lyhyesti. Analyysin perusteella on havaittu, että absorptiosyklin yhdistäminen kompressiosykliin voi parantaa lämpöpumpun suorituskykyä merkittävästi ja saavuttaa halutun lämpötilan nousun. Nykyisen kirjallisuuden ja tutkimuksen mukaan raportoitu maksimi saavutettu lämpötila on 280 °C. Euroopan unionissa teollisuuden hukkaenergian potentiaali oli vuonna 2018 noin 300 TWh vuodessa, lukuun ottamatta sähköntuotantoa. Monet teollisuuden alat tarvitsevat vain alle 200 °C lämpöä, mikä tekee näistä sektoreista erittäin sopivia lämpöpumppujen hyödyntämiseen. &#13;
&#13;

<title>How generative artificial intelligence (AI) tools can enhance software development?</title>
<link>http://lutpub.lut.fi:80/handle/10024/172674</link>
<description>How generative artificial intelligence (AI) tools can enhance software development?
Nguyen, Tran Huy Nguyen
Generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) tools have become a regular part of software development. However, research on their impact on developer productivity shows mixed results. Controlled experiments show speed increases of over 50%, while a randomised controlled trial with experienced developers working under real conditions found a slowdown. This thesis looks at how software engineers use GenAI tools in their daily tasks and how they view their impact on productivity.  &#13;
&#13;
The study used a qualitative approach. Six developers at various seniority levels from different organisations in Northern Europe were interviewed between December 2025 and July 2026. The semi-structured interviews were analysed using thematic analysis, guided by the SPACE framework for developer productivity.  &#13;
&#13;
The analysis produced three main themes. First, GenAI is integrated into daily work. The tools speed up routine tasks and help developers understand requirements and unfamiliar code. Second, perceived productivity gains are consistent but conditional. One participant estimated an overall saving of about a few percentages; another described much larger time savings on individual tasks. These results depended on the type of task, the developer’s experience, their familiarity with the codebase, and the rules set by their organisations. Third, the developer’s role is changing from writing code to supervising it, as some of the saved time goes into providing context and checking output.  &#13;
&#13;
The findings suggest that the contradictory results in previous research come from different measurement conditions rather than actual disagreements. Also, relying solely on output metrics can exaggerate what GenAI contributes to developer productivity.
