Tiivistelmä
Tämän pro gradu –tutkielman tavoitteena oli tutkia, kuinka EU:n PIE –asetuksen mukainen uusi tilintarkastuskertomus vaikuttaa suomalaisten listayhtiöiden tilintarkastusprosessiin. Uusi tilintarkastuskertomus tuli sovellettavaksi vuoden 2016 tilintarkastuksista lukien.
The objective of this master’s thesis was to examine how the new auditor’s report of EU PIE –regulation effects on the audit process in listed companies in Finland. The new auditor’s report became effective in the listed companies audits in Finland on fiscal year’s 2016 audits. This study focused on examining the effects of the new auditor’s report on the audit processes in listed companies. In this study the audit process was considered as a three-phased process including planning, implementation and reporting phases of an audit. The study concentrated on examining the changes within those phases during new auditor’s reports. The aim of this study was also to investigate the effects of the new auditor’s report in the audit expectation gap and the auditor’s reactions to the new auditor’s reports.
This study was conducted as a qualitative research. The research material was acquired through theme interviews. The interviewees consisted of four CPA –auditors working for Big Four –entities. The acquired data was analyzed by using qualitative content analysis techniques.
According to the results of this study it was examined that the new auditor’s report did not affect significantly on the audit process in listed companies. However, it was examined that the audit process became more open and visible especially due to the key audit matters which have to be individualized and reported on the auditor’s reports. According to the results of this study, the new auditor’s reports have narrowed the audit expectation gap experienced during the former auditor’s reports. The auditors reacted on the changes in legislation principally positively even though it was estimated that the new reports effect to the auditors work to some extent especially on the reporting phase of an audit.
All in all, this study indicated that the need for new extended auditor’s report has been ongoing for a while since the stakeholders have not fully been able to utilize standard auditor’s reports. The renewal of auditor’s reports caused changes mainly to the reporting phase of the listed companies audits but overall it made audit processes in listed companies more open and visible to the stakeholders.
