Tutkimuksen tavoitteena on aikaansaada koodiavain tulevaisuuden tuotemäärittelyjä varten, jotta prosessi on jatkossakin sujuvaa.
The target of this Master’s Thesis is to research the existing type code of the Konecranes Plc D2-series drive product family and to describes the adaptation of new code system to the new product family and for existing product management systems. The thesis gives perspectives on the advantages and disadvantages of the existing type code and describe the possibilities for its future use. The product coding definitions for this D2-series as well as the corresponding type codes from other manufacturers are investigated in this work for their definitions. The goal of the study is also to provide a product code key for future product specifications so that the delivery process keeps running smoothly. The thesis also investigated the possibility of integrating device parameterization as part of the type code.
This study utilizes company internal documents, also with the info from the company's experts and from its certain key individuals. The survey was conducted through both a general questionnaire and separate interviews. The results and the development for the type code were both verified with external research and by comparing external manufacturer’s devices with their individual product codes. As the work progressed, it was noted that the company's new product series was not fully defined for its final type coding. The result was that the code character library could not be generated for the final delivery product. The inclusion of parameterization in the product code was excluded from the study because its compatibility with the final product could not be verified and thus its reliability could not be demonstrated in the various variants of the device.
The result of this study publishes alternative structures for the final product type coding, both supporting new systems and with a share a view from the company personnel. This thesis cannot fully support the implementation of new type code or the final product code key, but it can verify the research questions which were assigned to it. During this work, a need for communication development was noticed in product management organisation. Despite the limitations of the study, structural models for the new product type code were published and a specific topic was assigned for further research on the new product code character library.
