Joulupuu- ja leikkohavuyrittäjyys Suomessa : tutkimus alan kasvumahdollisuuksista ja -haasteista

Abstract

Joulupuiden ja leikkohavujen viljely Suomessa on pieni ja melko kehittymätön toimiala - etenkin jos sitä verrataan esimerkiksi Tanskaan, joka on pienestä pinta-alastaan huolimatta maailman kolmanneksi suurin joulupuiden ja leikkohavujen tuottaja. Tuottajia on viisinkertainen määrä ja joulupuiden tuotantomäärä yli kymmenkertainen Suomeen verrattuna. Suomessa arvioidaan olevan noin 500 havualan toimijaa, joista valtaosalle joulupuiden viljely on sivutoiminen tulon lähde. Päätoimisia alan yrittäjiä on vain muutamia. Leikkohavujen tuotanto on olematonta, vaikka kotimaista kysyntää niillekin olisi.

Tämän työn tavoitteena oli selvittää joulupuiden ja leikkohavujen kotimaisen tuotannon ja yrittäjyyden kasvun mahdollisuuksia ja kasvuun liittyviä haasteita. Yrittäjien näkemyksiä kasvumahdollisuuksista ja haasteista kerättiin Webropol-kyselyn avulla. Kasvukysymysten lisäksi kyselyllä kerättiin tietoa toimialasta ja alalla toimivista yrityksistä.

Tärkeimpinä kasvukeinoina pidettiin osaamisen kasvattamista, verkostoitumista, investointeja ja uusien liiketoimintamallien käyttöönottoa. Kasvua eniten haittaavina tekijöinä pidettiin ajan ja voimavarojen riittämättömyyttä sekä vaikeutta löytää uusia asiakkaita ja markkinoita.

Tutkimuksen tuottaman tiedon avulla Suomen metsäkeskus voi kehittää joulupuu- ja leikkohavutoimialan, ja alan yritysten, kehittymistä ja kasvua tukevia palveluja ja toimintamalleja alan ja yrittäjien tarpeita vastaavaksi. Metsäkeskuksen lisäksi tutkimuksen tuottamasta tiedosta on hyötyä Joulupuuseuran toiminnan kehittämisessä. Tiedosta hyötyvät toivottavasti myös alan yritykset ja muut toimijat.

The cultivation of Christmas trees and decoration greenery in Finland is a small and rather undeveloped industry - especially if compared to, for example, Denmark, which, despite its small area, is the world's third largest producer of Christmas trees and decoration greenery. There are five times as many producers and the annual production of Christmas trees is more than tenfold compared in Finland. It is estimated that there are about 500 operators in the sector in Finland. Most of them are engaged in Christmas tree cultivation as a secondary source of income. There are only a few full-time entrepreneurs in the field. The production of decoration greenery is non-existent, even if there is growing domestic demand for it.

The aim of this work was to find out the opportunities and challenges for the growth of domestic production and entrepreneurship of Christmas trees and decoration greenery. Entrepreneurs' views on growth opportunities and challenges were collected through a Webropol survey. In addition to growth questions, the survey collected information on the industry and companies operating in the industry.

According to survey results, the most important growth factors were to increase competence, networking, investments and the introduction of new business models. Insufficient time and resources and the difficulty of finding new customers and markets were the main obstacles to growth.

With the help of the information produced by the study, the Finnish Forest Center can develop services and operating models that support the development and growth of the Christmas tree and decoration greenery industry, and companies in the sector, to meet the needs of the industry and entrepreneurs. In addition to the Forest Center, the information produced by the study is useful in developing the operations of the Finnish Christmas Tree Association. It is hoped that companies and other actors in the field will also benefit from the information.
