Tiivistelmä
Suomessa kasvukeskuksien infrastruktuurin rakentamiseen käytetään vuosittain huomattava määrä luonnonkiviaineksia, minkä myötä niiden saatavuus on heikentynyt.
A considerable amount of natural rock materials is used to develop the infrastructure of growth in Finland every year. As a result, this has affected natural rock availability. In order to reduce the use of natural rock, the utilization of alternative materials should be considered in the construction of infrastructure. Most of waste-rock in the extractive industry are the same quality as the natural rock materials that are mined separately for the needs of infrastructure construction. Expansion of mining operations will significantly increase the amount of waste materials in the future and it will be a key challenge for the circular economy.
In this thesis and studies, the main aim of procedures is to increase utilization rate of wasterocks in infrastructure construction. On the basis of the literature review, a Case-review and an interview carried out is to promote the utilization of the by-products of the extractive industry. According to research results, the challenge of using waste-rocks is the mismatch related to right time availability and location of available waste-rock materials and ongoing infrastructure construction including e.g. the need to process waste-rocks compared to natural stone materials, the lack of information on the quality characteristics of waste-rocks and the optional non-utilization of transport infrastructure. The better the risks associated with the use of waste-rocks are identified in the extractive industries, the better it can be managed in infrastructure projects. In addition, the legislation requires development for the utilization of waste-rocks in infrastructure projects.
