Multiple contractors perform most of their daily business as projects which all use the same limited resources. Allocating and evaluating adequate resources is often an everyday challenge when resources are distributed between projects lead by multiple project managers. In literary review of this study, various research papers are presented to find out what kind of resources a mid-sized electrical contracting company has and how it should utilize those in a multi-project environment. As a part of this study review has been made about shift management optimization via software solutions available on the market.
Target company present project management and resourcing are discussed using internal observation and interviews of project managers. Currently there is no compiled information of active projects and resources. Large amount of project information is tacit knowledge that transfers mostly in informal communication and often there is no trace of what has been arranged. As a result of this study a three-phased resourcing system is presented. In this system information is gathered through the whole process, from bidding to construction. The focus is on improving internal co-operation; e.g. by regular coordinating meetings, where the present and upcoming project status are reviewed and documented together by project managers.
