Lisäksi varastonhallinnassa hajanaiset toimintatavat kuluttavat yrityksen resursseja.
Lisäksi tutkimusaineistoa on täydennetty yritysjohdon haastatteluilla, joiden avulla tutkimusongelmasta saatu eksaktimpi kuvaus.
In this bachelor's thesis, I examine the optimization of a case company's inventory on the basis of procurement and inventory management methods and the theoretical literature.
Warehousing ensures operational reliability and prepares for the uncertainty of the operating environment as well as risks, but typically companies tend to inflate the inventory value too high in relation to the operating rate. Correspondingly, inventory levels that are too high in relation to the operating rate and the large number of inventory items bind capital that is inefficient in use. In addition, in inventory management, fragmented practices consume company resources.
The study has been carried out as a case study and examines how different theoretical models and practices can be effectively utilized in practice. The research material consists of theoretical literature on procurement and inventory management as well as item data obtained from the case company's ERP system. In addition, the research material has been supplemented with interviews with operative management, which have provided a more exact description of the research problem.
The inventory analysis shows that the company has the opportunity to release the capital tied up in the inventory by shortening the economic order interval and optimizing the procurement lot sizes. As a result of the research, the development potential of inventory management and procurement was also identified, and the target company was given recommendations to develop operations in analysis and inventory management methods, through which inventory value can be reduced and inventory turnover can be improved.
