The number of photovoltaic systems has grown and solar power is becoming a significant factor in the Finnish and global energy markets. The proliferation and obsolescence of solar panel systems increases the need to inspect systems for maintenance and operation. In this dissertation, the technology of solar panels and the components of a solar power plant are investigated. The master thesis deals with maintenance requirements and recommendations for solar panel inspections, maintenance measures and repairs that have been determined from solar panel inspections. The work deals with maintenance measures and faults that may occur in the panels. The work deals with thermal imaging methods for electrical equipment and solar power plants and equipment with which thermal imaging can be performed. Examples of faults in the thermal imaging of solar panels and what kind of observations can be obtained by thermal imaging are discussed. The main focus of the study was on the maintenance and upkeep of solar panels and the techniques by which inspections can be performed.
The research focuses on the thermal imaging of solar panels and the results obtained with it. In the study, thermal imaging was performed on the solar power plants located on the roofs of the Tytyri water utility in the city of Lohja and Haltia Nature Center. The solar panels were photographed with a drone equipped with a thermal camera. Reports were prepared on the results of the study, with deviations noted. The results of the thermal imaging were analyzed based on the observations. Heat imaging with a drone was found to be a good technique for detecting anomalous temperatures.
