Vapaaehtoinen päästökompensointi Suomessa

Abstract

Tämän kandidaatintyön tavoitteena on selvittää vapaaehtoisten päästökompensaatiohankkeiden nykytilannetta Suomessa ja hankkeiden hintatasoa. Ensiksi työssä käydään läpi teoreettinen pohja vapaaehtoiselle kompensoinnille, kompensaatiohankkeille, hankkeiden kriteereille ja hankkeissa käytetyille standardeille. Hankkeiden määrä Suomessa on nousussa. Suomalaisia kompensaatiohankkeita on noin 30 ja suurin osa niistä ovat metsähankkeita. Hintaa tyypillisellä hankkeella on n. 26 €/tCO2e. Harvat hankkeet ovat sertifioituja tai täyttävät kaikkia hyvän kompensaatiohankkeen kriteerejä. Jotta hankkeiden toiminta on näkyvää ja ilmastovaikutukseltaan tehokasta, vaativat vapaaehtoiset päästömarkkinat enemmän sääntelyä ja standardisointia.

The goal of this bachelor's thesis is to examine the current state of voluntary carbon offset projects and the price level of the voluntary carbon market in Finland. First, the text sets a theoretical basis for voluntary carbon offsetting, compensation projects, project criteria, and the standards used in the projects. The number of carbon offset projects in Finland is rising. There are about 30 Finnish carbon offset projects and most of them are forest projects. The price for the typical offset is about 26 €/tCO2e. Few of the projects are certified or meet all the criteria for a good compensation project. For projects to be transparent and effective in terms of climate impact, the voluntary carbon market requires more regulation and standardization.
