Tiivistelmä
Suomessa maatilojen omissa viljakuivureissa lämmöntuotannon polttoaine on yleisimmin öljy.
In Finland the fuel for heat production in farms' own grain dryers is most often oil. This research explores the possibilities of replacing the use of oil with less polluting solutions. In addition, methods for more energy-efficient drying are considered.
The work deals with different heat production options and different fuel options. It is also evaluated in what kind of farm different solutions could be profitable. Different farms have different kind of needs and resources, so no single clear solution can be found. The problem in many cases is that the power demand of the dryer rarely matches the other heating power demands of the farm. In addition, investments in dryers are often expensive and the dryer's heat requirement is only for a short time of the year. In the work, subsidies granted by the state for investments are discussed, as well as collective drying as an alternative to the farms' own dryers. The research methods are familiarization with the literature of the field and expert interviews that support the literature.
The development of oil prices has a decisive influence on whether it is economically viable to invest in an alternative method of heat production. Several solutions are more profitable for large farms or a dryer group with large quantities of grain. With small drying volumes, large investment costs eat up the savings achieved in energy. Especially on small farms, the goal of changing oil to a cheaper fuel is not necessarily economically viable, due to the large capital costs. It might be the most economically profitable to pay attention to the energy-efficient use of the dryer. It can be stated that energy-saving solutions such as insulation and the use of an energy-efficient dryer save energy in all cases and are profitable measures in all types of premises.
