Tiivistelmä
Toimintaympäristö muuttuu entistä nopeammin. Yrittäjämäisesti ajattelevia henkilöitä tarvitaan. He ovat innovatiivisia, luovia, näkevät mahdollisuuksia haasteiden sijaan, sietävät epävarmuutta ja epäonnistumisia. He haluavat kehittää ja uudistaa toimintaa. Yliopistoiden tieteentekijöillä on tärkeä rooli tulevaisuuden osaajien kasvattamisessa.
The world is changing with increasing speed. Entrepreneurial mindset and actions are needed to create new innovative solutions to the wicked problems around us. People with entrepreneurial mindset are innovative, creative and see possibilities instead of problems. They want to develop and improve things. Universities are becoming more entrepreneurial too. Researchers have an important role in teaching new generations of change makers. Not all researchers are born with entrepreneurial mindset and actions. It is possible to learn this mindset and skills from for example real life entrepreneurs or by attending courses related to the theme.
It is possible to be intrapreneurial in academics. Intrapreneurship should be supported and given space to act accordingly. Autonomy is related to motivation. Bureaucracy and tight rules are not supportive of entrepreneurial mindset. There can be tension between the actions of a single person and the expectations of the management. If the feeling of autonomy diminishes it is possible that the quality and amount of motivation decreases simultaneously. There must be a possibility to have an impact on one’s own work design.
Researchers working at LENS were the focus of this case study. They were found to be entrepreneurial in various ways. Three main conclusions were made. There must be common understanding of the actions related to the intrapreneurship. Reward systems, autonomy, management support and available resources all have a positive effect on the amount and quality of motivation towards the desired outcome. Entrepreneurial researchers can have a huge impact on the entrepreneurial mindset and skills of their students.
