Vastaajien taustat olivat kuitenkin monipuolisia, joten tutkimuksesta pystyttiin muodostamaan suuntaa antava kuvaus. Software technology greatly improves the climate-friendliness of other sectors by reducing emissions through technological solutions. However, not so much attention is paid to the climate-friendly nature of software technology itself and carbon dioxide emissions.
This work focuses on the challenges facing the software technology sector in terms of climate-friendliness and the calculation of CO2 emissions. In order to identify the problem areas, the Green ICT webinars' panel discussions are used, where companies in the sector discuss different themes with each other. A number of comments on these discussions will be collected and compiled for analysis for research purposes. The final study consists of a survey for Finnish software technology companies, which will provide an overview of the climate-friendliness of the Finnish software technology industry and the calculation of CO2 emissions.
Software technology companies have added climate friendliness into their values and are seeking to implement proposals for action of the Ministry of Transport and Communications ICT climate strategy. Companies have a designated work role in developing and maintaining climate-friendly operations. The implementation of climate-friendly measures is still relatively new and has increased over the last three years. The increase has been influenced by climate change, customer pressure and the development of a work role.
A reliable overview of research failed due to a limited number of responses. However, the backgrounds of the respondents were diverse, so it was possible to provide an approximate description of the study.
