Development of a numerical comparison tool for concept design comparison from total investments point of view : service platform development

Abstract

The goal for this study was to identify the development points of the current Konecranes service platform structure and to propose solutions for these identified issues by introducing three new concept designs to replace the current service platform structure. Since the same service platform structure is in use globally, the service platform concept had to fulfil the requirements of local standards in all three key market areas. Standard requirements were gathered on a comparison chart using local standards from Europe, US, India and Australia which cover main part of the market areas. The chart can be used for making changes to the service platform structure to fulfil the local requirements.

Service platform concepts presented in this paper were designed according to EN- standards using the VDI2222 methodology. The service platform structures were numerically evaluated by their physical properties, DFMA- principles and from environmental point of view. Based on these values, scores were given to the structures which enabled the possibility to compare the concept structures against the current Konecranes service platform structure. For the cost effectiveness being the determining criteria, none of the new concepts were able to challenge the current structure despite they were superior in several other sector.

As the study progressed, several proposals for new investigation topics arose. Some of these topics are directly related to the topic of this study, while other are related to improve engineering, manufacturing, and subcontracting. There are also proposals for new product and for improvement of one existing product.

Työn aiheena oli selvittää Konecranes Oy:n nykyisen huoltotason rakenteessa olevat kehityskohteet sekä suunnitella kolme uutta huoltotasokonseptia, missä nämä kehityskohteet on pyritty ratkaisemaan. Uusien huoltotasokonseptien tuli myös täyttää käytössä olevien standardien vaatimukset. Koska uusi huoltotaso oli tarkoitus ottaa käyttöön ympäri maailmaa, standardien vaatimukset huoltotason rakenteelle selvitettiin kaikilla Konecranesin suurimmilla markkina-alueilla, joita ovat Eurooppa, Amerikka sekä Tyynen meren valtiot. Standardien vaatimukset selvitettiin Euroopassa ja Amerikassa käytössä olevien paikallisten standardien osalta ja Tyynen meren valtioiden kohdalla käytettiin Intian ja Australian standardeja, joiden vaatimukset koottiin vertailutaulukkoon minkä pohjalta tarvittavat muutokset huoltotason rakenteeseen on helppo tehdä paikallisten standardien vaatimusten täyttämiseksi.

Työssä esitellyt huoltotasot suunniteltiin EN- standardien pohjalta käyttäen VDI2222:n metodiikkaa. Nykyisen ja työssä esiteltyjen huoltotasojen rakenteet arvioitiin numeerisesti fyysisten ominaisuuksien osalta, DFMA- periaatteiden sekä ympäristön näkökulmasta. Saatujen arvojen pohjalta huoltotasot pisteytettiin, jolloin niitä voitiin verrata keskenään. Kustannusten ollessa määräävänä tekijänä, mikään uusista huoltotasokonsepteista ei kyennyt haastamaan nykyistä rakennetta, vaikka työssä esitellyt konseptit olivatkin parempia monella muulla osa-alueella.

Työn kuluessa ehdotuksia jatkotutkimusaiheiksi syntyi useita, joista osa liittyy suoraan työn aiheeseen, kun taas osa tuotannon ja alihankintaketjujen kehittämiseen. Mukana on myös ehdotus uudesta tuotteesta sekä vanhan kehittämisestä.
