Tiivistelmä
Diplomityössä tavoitteena oli tutkia MM Kotkamillssin uuden vuonna 2024 valmistuvan arkittamon toimintaa ja selvittää siihen liittyvän uuden rakennettavan kauttakulkuterminaalin optimaalisin varastointiratkaisu. Tutkimus on toteutettu case-tutkimuksena, jonka tärkeimpinä tiedonhankintalähteinä toimi seitsemän haastattelua ja tehtaan arkkitilauksia käsittelevä historiadata.
Työn teoriaosuus avaa tuotannon ja varastoinnin taustalla toimivia prosesseja, sekä erilaisia mahdollisia varastointiratkaisuja uuteen terminaaliin. Empiria-osuudessa käydään läpi arkittamon arvovirtakuvausta, tutkimusta varten tarvittavia olettamuksia sekä kuusi erilaista varastointiratkaisua, jotka vastaavat terminaaliin kohdistuviin vaatimuksiin ja tavoitteisiin eri näkökulmista.
Diplomityön lopputulos tarjoaa kattavan näkemyksen uuden arkittamon tuoteportfoliosta ja avaa valmistettaviin tuotteisiin liittyviä haasteita ja mahdollisuuksia varastoinnin näkökulmasta. Lisäksi tutkimus antaa perustellut varastointiratkaisuvaihtoehdot kohdeyritykselle, joita voidaan käyttää tarvittavien hankintojen pohjana tai joita voidaan tarvittaessa jatkokehittää. The objective of the master's thesis was to investigate the operation of the new sheeting facility at MM Kotkamills, which will be completed in 2024, and to determine the optimal storage solution for the new transit terminal being built. The research was conducted as a case study, with seven interviews and historical data of sheet orders from the factory being the main sources of information.
The theoretical part of the thesis explains the processes underlying production and storage, as well as various possible storage solutions for the new terminal. In the empirical part, the value stream mapping of the archive center is discussed, assumptions necessary for the research are presented, and six different storage solutions are examined from different perspectives that meet the requirements and goals of the new terminal.
The final result of the master's thesis provides a comprehensive view of the product portfolio of the new sheeting facility, and reveals challenges as well as opportunities related to the storage of manufactured products. Additionally, the research provides well-founded storage solution alternatives for the target company, which can be used as a basis for necessary purchases or can be further developed as needed.
