Tiivistelmä
This thesis describes the development and programming of a ballast water treatment demonstrator using Siemens PLCs and TIA Portal software. The system was designed to purify ballast water for ships, with various units controlled in a sequence. The control system utilizes different types of sensors, valves, and pumps to regulate the water treatment process. The programming structure was designed to control the operation of the different sections in a sequence, allowing for the efficient treatment of ballast water. The demonstrator was tested using simulation and physical testing.
Results showed that the system was effective in treating the ballast water, with low chemical usage and reduced environmental impact. Future work includes exploring the integration of remote monitoring and control systems for improved efficiency and maintenance.
