Tiivistelmä
Kansainvälisten IFRS-raportointistandardien tarkoituksena on edistää tilinpäätösraportoinnin luotettavuutta, vertailukelpoisuutta ja läpinäkyvyyttä maailmanlaajuisesti. IFRS-raportoinnissa IFRS 15 Tuotot asiakassopimuksista -standardi käsittää yrityksen tärkeimmän tilinpäätöserän, myyntituotot, ja määrää sen tuloutuksellisesta käsittelystä. Jotta vertailukelpoisen raportointiaineiston tuottaminen onnistuu, on yrityksien kyettävä noudattamaan standardien määräyksiä.
Tämän kandidaatintutkielman tarkoituksena on selvittää, millaista ohjeistusta yritys tarvitsee IFRS 15 -standardin mukaisen myynnin tuloutuksen kehittämiseksi.
The purpose of the IFRS standards is to promote the reliability, comparability, and transparency of financial statement reporting worldwide. In order to produce comparable reporting, companies need to be able to follow the standard regulations. In IFRS reporting, IFRS 15 Revenue from Contracts with Customers includes the most important financial statement item, sales revenue, and defines its revenue recognition practices.
The aim of this bachelor’s thesis is to study what kind of guidance the company needs to develop its revenue recognition in accordance with IFRS 15. These development points were examined by researching the current state of revenue recognition within the company as well as the impact of Incoterms 2020 delivery clauses on the company’s revenue recognition practices. The study was conducted as a case study, and the research data was collected through thematic interviews from the target company. The themes included in the interviews are IFRS 15, revenue recognition and the impact of delivery clauses on revenue recognition.
The results show that the possible development points of revenue recognition according to IFRS 15 concentrate on the actual revenue recognition step of the five-step model of IFRS 15. The main findings of this research are the development points in revenue recognition of sales of goods, in which the delivery terms applied by the company and the exclusive effect of delivery terms on the time of revenue recognition created the challenges. The results also highlighted the challenges of targeting revenue recognition in time and the staff’s ambiguities in operating methods. Based on this research, revenue recognition can be developed by responding to these development points found in the study.
