This thesis focuses on the prototyping and evaluation of a community energy interface that has been designed based on user persona. To evaluate the effectiveness of the interface, another interface presenting similar information was created which was based on data types. The objective of the thesis was to understand the awareness and comfort level of people accessing energy data based on persona approach.
The thesis was divided into three phases where the first phase included a systematic literature review. The second phase included the prototyping of two equivalent interfaces and lastly the evaluation of these interfaces. Based on the research questions, two surveys’ involving 20 participants in each were conducted where participants from one category navigated and evaluated the interface based on user persona and the participants from the other category navigated and evaluated the interface based on data type. Based on the results from the evaluation it was found that people who viewed and evaluated the Interface based on user persona found it more comfortable while exploring energy data. Participants also found the persona approach more relevant as the energy related information presented through the interface aided them in relating the data to their personal habits.
