Tiivistelmä
The thesis provides the case company and readers with an insight into sustainable supplier selection criteria and evaluation of suppliers’ performance based on environmental and social dimensions of sustainability. The study focuses specifically on the perspectives of a textile editor in the upholstery and interior fabrics segment of the textile industry.
Mixed method research is utilized for the study. Interviews are conducted with key suppliers of the case company to reveal sustainable supplier selection criteria in the industry. These criteria cover environmental aspects such as waste management, restricted substances, energy and water consumption as well as social issues such as child and forced labour, non-discrimination along with health and safety.
Self-assessment questionnaires are also sent to all suppliers the case company to conduct evaluation suppliers’ sustainability performance which solely focuses on certain environmental and social criteria. The findings of the study indicate that the majority of suppliers exhibit a satisfactory level of adherence to basic sustainability requirements. Furthermore, the environmental and social performance of suppliers demonstrates a positive trend.
