Tiivistelmä
Data analytics outsourcing is an emerging trend in the business world, offering potential benefits in facilitating decision making and improving business performance. This qualitative study focuses on investigating the risks associated with data analytics outsourcing and exploring the corresponding mitigation strategies, from the perspective of an outsourcing vendor. The empirical data were collected through interviews with three representatives from the outsourcing vendor.
The findings reveal that to conduct an outsourcing project, the vendor typically goes through three main phases: sales and presales, execution and delivery, and warranty and closure. Within these phases, the vendor identifies a total of eleven risks, with some specific to certain steps and others persisting across multiple steps. The risks are categorized into three groups: risks arising from the client side, risks arising from the vendor side, and uncertainty risks. The study also highlights the measures implemented by the vendor to mitigate these risks.
This study contributes to the limited empirical knowledge in the field by examining risks from the vendor’s perspective. The findings aim to not only improve clients’ understanding of the outsourcing vendor’s situation, fostering better cooperation and successful outsourcing relationships, but also provide comprehensive practical insights for other vendors, serving as a reference for conducting outsourcing projects, identifying relevant risks, and implementing appropriate mitigation actions.
