Tiivistelmä
This thesis investigates the strategies and initiatives implemented by Afstor Oy, a renewable energy company operating in Africa and makes solar home cooker systems, to contribute towards environmental sustainability. As the continent faces pressing environmental challenges and a growing demand for energy, renewable energy sources have emerged as a promising solution to address both energy access and environmental concerns. The study utilizes interviews as the primary method of data collection, engaging stakeholders from the academia who are knowledgeable in renewable energy and familiar with Afstor Oy’s operation in Africa.
Furthermore, the thesis incorporates the works of student groups involved in the case study in Zambia, providing additional perspectives and analyses. These student groups have undertaken comprehensive investigations, including field visits and the examination of Afstor Oy’s operations in Zambia. By integrating the findings from these student works, this thesis strengthens the overall research by providing diverse viewpoints and expanding the scope of analysis.
To enable deployment of renewable and sustainable energy sources, a suitable business model is essential. This work highlighted some business models that have been used by some innovative renewable energy companies and have proven effective. This provides a blueprint to emerging companies for operational success in the renewable energy business.
