Tiivistelmä
This thesis investigates the data compression techniques available in Azure, specifically examining the impact of row and page compression on the energy consumption and performance of cloud applications. This thesis was conducted as part of a collaborative internship program with a financial institution in Amsterdam. The research encompasses a comprehensive literature examination, feasibility study, and controlled experiment.
The results of the study revealed that the implementation of data compression techniques, particularly row and page compression, did not yield a statistically significant impact on energy consumption or response time, specifically to the application subjected to the experiment. However, it was observed that these techniques had a noticeable effect on CPU usage.
