Tiivistelmä
Metaverse on ideologisena terminä jo 30 vuotta vanha konsepti ja on taas lähivuosina saanut paljon huomiota. Metaverse on herättänyt kiinnostusta monissa tutkijoissa ja suurissa yrityksissä teknologian kehityksen myötä, mikä on myös saanut sen nopeaan kasvuun.
Tämän kandidaatintyön tavoitteena on tehdä kirjallisuuskatsaus metaverseen. Selvitetään mitä metaverse tarkoittaa ja käydään läpi teknologian ja toteutusten nykytila. Työssä käydään myös läpi erilaisia laitteita millä metaverseen päästään sisään. Selvitetään millaisia ovat metaverse ohjelmistoalustat ja fyysisen maailman ja metaversen integraation haasteet ja mahdollisuudet.
Työn tuloksena saatiin kirjallisuuskatsauksen seurauksena, että metaverse tarvitsee vielä paljon tutkimusta. Metaverse on vielä kehityksen alkuvaiheessa, sillä suurin osa käyttökohteista on vielä toteuttamatta. Metaversen tuomat hyödyt ovat toistaiseksi viihdettä lukuun ottamatta pienet. Metaverse kasvaa kuitenkin nopeasti ja sillä on paljon potentiaalia tulevaisuudelle, sillä se tuo mukanaan uusia lähestymistapoja arjen ongelmiin. The concept of the Metaverse has been around as an ideological term for 30 years, and it has gained significant attention again in recent years. With the advancement of technology, the metaverse has sparked interest among many researchers and large companies, leading to its rapid growth.
The aim of this bachelor’s thesis is to conduct a literature review on the metaverse. It seeks to explore what the Metaverse entails and delve into the current state of technology and implementations. The thesis also inspects various devices used to access the metaverse. Additionally, it investigates the different software platforms for the metaverse, and the challenges and opportunities related to integrating the physical world with the metaverse.
The results of the literature review indicate that the metaverse still requires considerable amount of research. It is currently in its early stages of development, as most of its potential use cases remain unrealized. Apart from entertainment, the benefits brought by the metaverse are currently limited. Nevertheless, the metaverse holds significant potential for the future. However, the metaverse is expanding rapidly and holds significant potential for the future, introducing new approaches to everyday problems.
