Tiivistelmä
Liiketoimimallien ja tornipuolustuspelien omanaisuuksien välistä yhteyttä pelin menestykseen ei ole vielä tutkittu. Tämä tutkimus tuo yhteen nämä kaksi aihetta, jolloin pystytään havainnoimaa näiden vaikutusta pelin menestykseen.
Tässä kandidaatin tutkielmassa tutkittiin 40 eri tornipuolustuspelin liiketoimimalleja ja peliin suunniteltuja ominaisuuksia.
Tutkimus toteutettiin määrällisenä tutkimuksensa, jossa testatuista peleistä tiedot liiketoimimalleista ja pelinominaisuuksista syötettiin Excel-taulukkoon. Myöhemmin tiedot muutettiin tilastollisesti paremmin tarkasteltavaan muotoon.
Tutkimuksen perusteella havaittiin liiketoimimallien osalta, että mainokset laskevat arvosanaa, mutta mainosten poistaminen nosti arvosanaa. Pelinominaisuuksista pystytään sanomaan, että pelissä tulee olla päävastuksia ja mahdollisuus muuttaa vihollisen kulkureittiä. Pelien tulee täyttää tornipuolustuspelien perus eli pelissä täytyy olla torni tai muu torniksi luokiteltava pelaaja, vihollisia, ja vihollisaaltoja.
Tarkasteltavien pelit tulee olla ladattavissa Google Play -kaupassa ilmaiseksi, pelien tulee toimia Android-käyttöjärjestelmällä. The link between business models and the characteristics of tower defense games on game success has not yet been studied. This study brings these two issues together to observe their impact on game success.
In this bachelor thesis 40 different tower defense game business models and game design features were studied.
The research was conducted as quantitative research, where data on the business models and game features of the tested games were entered into an Excel spreadsheet. The data was later transformed into a more statistically meaningful format.
The study found that for business models, ads lowered the score, but removing ads raised the score. In terms of game features, it can be said that the game should have main bosses and the possibility to change the enemy's route. The games must meet the basic requirements of tower defense games, i.e., the game must have a tower or other player classified as a tower, enemies, and enemy waves.
The games under review should be available for free download from the Google Play Store, the games should run on Android operating system.
