Tiivistelmä
Flexibility resources are increasingly needed to maintain power system reliability and resilience in an energy system transitioning toward a higher penetration of renewable energy sources (RES). Multienergy systems (MESs) and sector coupling could support electricity networks significantly. However, reaching the full flexibility exploitation potential of MESs is still challenging in what pertains to aspects such as energy management, technical capabilities, market requisites, and economic performance. This paper presents an overview of developments, opportunities, and challenges linked to the allocation of flexibility resources provided by MESs in the European electricity markets.
