Tiivistelmä
The thesis investigates whether ChatGPT positively impacts the learning outcome of students in three (3) domains of knowledge. The investigation was performed via a lab experiment, (3) three quizzes in the three domains of knowledge (English, Mathematics and science) and (2) two online questionnaires for baseline and end line assessments. ChatGPT is an innovative system made by OpenAI in 2022 that uses a natural language processing (NLP) system to generate systematic, coherent, and informative human-like responses to user prompts (Marr, 2023, Zhai, 2022). This study performed a review of related works, conducted a lab experiment, and administered both a base line and end line assessment questionnaire. Both the lab experiment and the online questionnaires were analyzed by using STATA to perform ordinary least square regression, correlation and descriptive statistics. The study showed that the use of ChatGPT improves the level of knowledge acquired by participants in all three domains of knowledge; English, mathematics and science, this implies that ChatGPT is a useful tool for student learning outcome and performance. The study recommends teaching students how to utilize ChatGPT to study to deepen their learning outcomes and teachers should underscore the need for ethical use of ChatGPT to students.
