Digital service platform innovation is playing an important role in today’s technology innovation. In today’s market, the development of innovative digital platforms is showing its great potential to serve industrial customers. Businesses are investing time and resources to develop these innovations while bearing risks of imitation from competitors. To keep the motivation of digital innovation and preserve its business value to innovators, the development of appropriability strategies is crucial for businesses. This report explores the available intellectual property protection frameworks, the nature of this digital service platform, and other factors that impact the decision-making of intellectual property strategy with a focus on digital innovation based on the computer systems and platforms in the technology-intensive industry. Literature research is mainly based on the literature on IP strategies in digital technologies. Systematic literature review will be used to study broader areas of related literature. The Target of this thesis is to analyze the available IP mechanisms in the aspects of the case company and provide the recommended IP strategies best suited to the case company. Additionally, the principles to make IP strategy decisions are studied to benefit the decision-making process and better outcomes.
