Tiivistelmä
With the growing popularity of developing the renewable energy, wind power has become one of the most contributor to the total renewable energy production. How can the wind power develop more effectively and where wind farms should be located have been becoming two vital questions that public focuses on. The main objective of this thesis is to find the overall characteristics of wind speed and wind power in Finland, as well as to make an aerodynamics model and a Simulink model of a wind turbine.
This thesis begins with a general summary and analysis of the wind characteristics of each region in Finland. At the same time, the existing installed wind power facilities and scale in Finland are counted. Second, the thesis provides two methods to get the single wind turbine power production, one is through aerodynamics model of wind turbine, the other one is through Simulink model in MATLAB. The wind power production calculation formulas are showed and one sophisticated Simulink model is made in the methodology chapter. Subsequently, a comparison of the two methods is carried out. An analysis is conducted based on the results. The findings indicate that the power production calculated using aerodynamic formulas is higher than that obtained from the Simulink model. This discrepancy may be due to inaccurate power coefficient values used in the aerodynamic formulas.
This thesis helps readers know the Finnish wind power traits well and understand more details in the process of wind power production.
