Abstracts of LUT Doctoral School Science Conference 2025

Abstract

This conference book presents the abstracts of all the presentations we had at the LUT Doctoral School Science Conference 2025 held on 20th May 2025 at Lappeenranta campus. The number of conference presentations was high (260) representing all the disciplines we have at our doctoral school. Thus, the book offers a good view of the research done at our university and enables us to come back to the interesting viewpoints we might have heard during the conference day. We hope that it also facilitates the contact of people when you need to find someone to spar new ideas or to gather wider understanding on some problem to solve. The book is organized according to the thematic sessions developed for the event. Via LUT Doctoral School Science Conference, we aimed to connect research across disciplines. Therefore, artificial intelligence was initially used to group conference submissions based on titles and keywords, followed by manual refinement to enhance thematic consistency and relevance. We were pleased to see how this process resulted in diverse groupings, bringing together presenters from a wide range of research fields. We hope this interdisciplinary approach sparked new ideas, encouraged fresh perspectives, and raised important questions—particularly about the underlying factors that connect these varied research topics. Whether this method led to meaningful interdisciplinary insights or just creative chaos is up for debate—but if nothing else, it may have sparked some unexpected ideas (or at least a few raised eyebrows). The participants create the conference and thus, we extend our sincere gratitude to all presenters and attendees for their valuable contributions and active engagement. We hope that both the conference and these proceedings will continue to evolve and inspire further discussions and developments in the future.
