Tiivistelmä
Rail transport plays a major role in the future because it is safe and positively impacts the environment. The study aimed to analyse passenger rail transport in Finland and identify factors that could influence passengers' interest in travelling by train. The study included a survey of industry experts. As a result, a development plan for passenger railways in Finland was drawn up. The interviews and the literature revealed the importance of flexible pricing, high service level, environmental awareness and the role of the government. In contrast to the experts, the literature highlights marketing and tourism aspects. The results reflect the general development trends of demand for train travel in Finland. The survey highlighted the need for intermodal services, flexible pricing or loyalty programs, and addressed infrastructure as a barrier to train travel.
