Tiivistelmä
Mobility and transportation are increasingly significant contributors to the ecological profile of the modern society. Personal cars generate a more pronounced environmental footprint as they become more widespread. It is therefore crucial to maximize the efficiency of transportation and ensure that vehicles produce minimal unnecessary emissions. This thesis explores the conditions under which a passenger car must be able to perform effectively and establishes a theoretical foundation for a drivetrain design optimized for these conditions in a sub-compact car. The objectives of the thesis are to analyse typical driving patterns, determine the operating conditions and constraints of an electric car that meets an average driver’s requirements in terms of performance and range, and to select appropriate drivetrain components based on evaluating the performance of various options under the defined conditions. The result of the thesis is a drivetrain model, developed thorough review of academic literature, and the selection and dimensioning of the electrical machine, power electronics, and a battery in accordance with the derived requirements. This drivetrain model achieves a balance between efficiency, performance, and practical usability. The drivetrain has 21 kW of continuous power, 65 Nm of continuous torque, and a 13.58 kWh battery capacity.
