Tiivistelmä
The study investigates the effects of usage of generative AI on critical thinking with cognitive offloading as a mediator. The survey used a sample size of 392 respondent, calculated using Cochran’s sample size formula for known population. The formula provided a sample size of 385 participants. The Purposive sampling technique was used to collect the data. A 5-point Likert scale was used to measured the variables and questionnaire included both open ended and closed ended question. In order to test the reliability and validity of the instrument, Cronbach’s alpha, convergent validity and discriminant validity test were performed. The result of reliability test showed that Cronbach’s alpha of variables were above 0.70 ensuring data are reliable for further use and the result of validity test showed that both convergent and discriminant validity were established using Fornell–Larcker criterion. In order to test the set hypothesis, regression based mediation analysis was used. The result showed direct, indirect and total effect of the model are positive and significant. Furthermore, significant direct effect and indirect effect revealed that cognitive offloading partially mediates the relationship between usages of generative AI and critical thinking. The positive and significant coefficients of regression showed that there is positive transmission through mediator (i.e., cognitive offloading).
