Tiivistelmä
Europe relies more on giant global cloud providers, triggering EU worries about data control, local rules, and foreign legislation risks. AWS offers cutting-edge technology and global scale, but GDPR and NIS2 regulations drive interest in EU controlled cloud solutions. Still, practical research on moving hyperscale systems to European providers remains scarce.
This thesis investigates migration feasibility of an AWS cloud architecture to a sovereign EU platforms through a qualitative multicriteria framework extended with sovereignty dimensions. Analysis uses a documented reference case and triangulates provider docs, EU laws, and research literature. OVHcloud, Hetzner, and Scaleway are assessed across performance, scalability, efficiency, automation, security, and sovereignty metrics.
European providers successfully support fundamental technical and operational needs. AWS preserves advantages in international presence and ecosystem integration, but EU alternatives offer superior compliance assurance and legal autonomy, rendering migration both practical and strategically appropriate for EU oriented applications.
