The main objective of this thesis is to analyse the influence exerted by Artificial Intelligence on the evolution of business models. Artificial Intelligence is often framed as a force for innovation; however, the analysis of these effects remains limited. This study utilises a qualitative research method, making use of insights from eight experts in various fields to explore the mechanisms used by this innovation.
From the findings, it becomes clear that the impact is initially felt in the inner workings of a firm, where automation of routine tasks and accelerated development thrive. As adoption is further explored, the focus shifts to switching the value creation and capture mechanisms from selling physical products to guaranteeing service outcomes. Many of the challenges are identified in the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology, with the most mentioned issue being a lack of infrastructure.
The conclusions of this study are that integrating AI requires a dramatic shift from rigid bureaucracy to relying on guidelines and dynamic capabilities, where flexibility and trust have a large role. Ultimately, while the possibilities of innovating business models with AI are great, it is greatly hampered by many challenges that plague every new technology.
