The purpose of this research study is to investigate the cost effectiveness of a software project while developing software products in the IT companies selected for the research. Another objective of this study is to observe the implementation of software models and methodologies implemented while developing software products. With this action, implementation of QA Practices for the assurance of quality has been observed as well.
To achieve these objectives, a detailed literature review has been done by studying different research papers of various authors. It shows what factors are truly involved in getting cost effective products. Questionnaire has been designed by keeping all objectives and it has been distributed in five different IT companies of Finland. About 150 questionnaires were distributed with the intention of data collection from various companies. I got variety of responses from the respondents on questionnaire and were recorded and analyzed in Microsoft Excel.
The results of the research study basically show that there are few major things which should be considered while making the software projects effective in the perspective of cost. Costs of quality play a role in achieving effectiveness and efficiency of the project. Costs of quality include prevention, appraisal and correction costs. Results show that most of the companies do focus on cost prevention as they are aware of the consequences of appraisal and correction costs. QA practices are being followed by the companies. They are ensuring quality at the earlier stage of the development to prevent projects from going through any disaster. Normally in every software company QA has become a part of the software development models and methodologies. Maintaining quality with the implementation of the projects is the best practice nowadays companies are doing. Major errors and defects are controlled at the early stage of development so that abnormalities could be eliminated from occurrence at the finishing of the software products. It is clearly stated from the results that companies are not only focusing on the implementation of the software, but they are also faithfully considering quality of the software as major thing in the success of the software and especially to fulfill the needs of the end users.
Although data has been collected from five major software companies, it is describing the situation of producing software of the companies in Finland generally. Finally, conclusion can be drawn is that best practices are being used with the best care of quality in different software houses. Major factors are being considered while developing and ensuring quality. Proper implementation and QA plans are being made before starting of any projects.
