Tiivistelmä
This thesis focuses on the mechanical design of a bicycle shifting mechanism. Based on literature review and market research, the Shimano Deore XT 1*12 mountain bike drivetrain was selected as a benchmark for target dimensions. With limitations and acceptable simplifications discussed, a detailed 3D CAD model was created. The individual parts from the CAD model were FDM printed on a Creality K1 MAX 3D printer. With multiple iterations of the dimensions having been printed to account for PLA shrinkage upon cooling and other factors, an interactive FDM printed assembly was created. The findings from the modelling process and changes in dimensions when parts are FDM printed was composed into a teaching exercise for students to replicate the model. The model is complemented by 2D drawings.
