Tiivistelmä

The supply of raw materials faces growing environmental and economic concerns. Hence, the metallurgical byproducts are considered secondary raw materials to reduce the demand for primary raw material resources. Despite the known potential of the byproducts, inadequate decision-support systems and fragmented data create difficulties in their practical implementation.

In this study, a digital platform prototype is developed with a focus on metallurgical byproducts for preliminary screening of suitable valorization pathways. This research employs an exploratory approach, integrating literature-derived data to build a foundational prototype. The assembled database is organized based on byproduct characteristics.

The prototype supports early-stage decision-making. It assists in identifying and comparing potential end-use applications of byproducts. The platform enhances the visibility and significance of the secondary raw materials through digitalization.

Nonetheless, the major barriers include non-standardized and inconsistent data availability. The findings indicate that the lack of a structured data system poses a significant obstacle to the efficient utilization of metallurgical byproducts. As a result, the suggested digital platform offers a foundational concept for developing scalable digital systems and facilitating the transition towards the structured utilization of secondary resources within circular economy systems.
