Tiivistelmä

Software Product Management encompasses a wide range of practices related to product strategy, customer understanding, product development, organizational coordination, and data-driven decision-making. While these practices have been widely discussed in both academic and practitioner literature, knowledge regarding the outcomes associated with them remains fragmented. This study addresses this gap by identifying Software Product Management practices reported in the literature and the outcomes associated with those practices.

A Multivocal Literature Review (MLR) was conducted to synthesize evidence from both academic and grey literature sources. Relevant studies were systematically identified, screened, and analysed using thematic analysis. The extracted data were used to identify SPM practices, reported outcomes, and practice–outcome associations.

The findings resulted in a categorization of reported Software Product Management practices and outcomes and revealed distinct patterns of association between them. The analysis indicated that different practice categories were associated with different types of outcomes, suggesting that Software Product Management is linked to multiple forms of organizational value spanning strategic, business, customer, product, and organizational domains.

Based on these findings, a Practice–Outcome Framework was developed to synthesize the identified relationships. The framework provides an integrated view of how different areas of Software Product Management relate to different outcome domains and brings together knowledge that has previously been dispersed across academic and practitioner sources. The study contributes to a broader understanding of Software Product Management and provides a foundation for future research and practical reflection within software product organizations.
