In this bachelor’s thesis, the energy consumption, power requirements, and production capacity of IPL soldering and reflow soldering are compared in the soldering process of printed circuit boards. The aim is to determine how these methods differ in terms of energy consumption, power demand, and production capacity for different printed circuit board sizes.
The study is carried out as a computational analysis based on literature and manufacturer documentation. The input data for IPL soldering are based on research studies, while the values for reflow soldering are derived from technical specifications of an industrial oven. The comparison is conducted using five different printed circuit board sizes.
The results show that the power requirement of the IPL soldering process strongly depends on the size of the printed circuit board, whereas the power requirement of reflow soldering remains constant. For small circuit boards, the power requirement of the IPL process is clearly lower than that of the reflow process, but for larger boards the situation is reversed.
Reflow soldering enables high production capacity in a continuous process, whereas IPL soldering is better suited for individual solder joints and small production batches. In addition, the energy consumption per produced circuit board increases with increasing board size for both methods. The results indicate that the suitability of the methods depends on the specific application and production requirements.
