Tiivistelmä
Kaukolämmitys on tietyn alueen keskitettyä lämmöntuotantoa. Suomessa kaukolämmöntuotanto on pitkään perustunut fossiilisiin polttoaineisiin, biomassaan ja CHP-laitoksiin. Suomessa ja muissa Pohjoismaissa on investoitu suuria varoja puhtaaseen energiantuotantoon. Energiatuotantomenetelmistä, muun muassa aurinko- ja tuulivoima tuottavat sähköä hyvin pienillä päästöillä. Verrattuna muihin yleisiin sähköntuotantomenetelmiin, aurinko- ja tuulivoima tuottavat sähköä todella matalilla kustannuksilla. Tarpeeksi halpa sähkön hinta mahdollistaa taloudellisesti kannattavan lämmöntuotannon sähköllä. Tämä diplomityö on tehty selvittämään sähköisten kaukolämmöntuotantomenetelmien taloudellinen kannattavuus suomalaisessa kaukolämmön tuotannossa. Sähköisten kaukolämmöntuotantomenetelmien tuotantokustannuksia verrattiin puuhaketta polttoaineenaan käyttävään biokattilaan. Eri menetelmien tuotantokustannuksia mallinnettiin niiden pääoma- ja käyttövoimakustannusten perusteella. Menetelmille muodostui näin tiettyyn ajanhetkeen sidotut ominaiskustannukset (€/MWh), joita verrattiin toisiinsa sellaisinaan sekä kustannusrakenteen, herkkyystarkastelun ja keskihajonnan kautta. Tuotantokustannusten mallinnuksen perusteella sähköiset menetelmät ovat kustannustehokkaita ratkaisuja kaukolämmön tuottamiseen, monissa tapauksissa ollen biokattilaa kannattavampia. Niiden hyödyntämisessä täytyy kuitenkin olla tarkkana vuosittaisten huipunkäyttötuntien takia. Tulevaisuudessa sähköiset kaukolämmöntuotantomenetelmät tulevat todennäköisesti laskemaan Suomen kaukolämmöntuotannon kustannuksia. Ne kuitenkin vaativat energiayhtiöiltä edelleen suuria investointimääriä. District heating is centralized heat production for a specific geographical area. In Finland, district heating production has traditionally been based on fossil fuels, biomass and CHP-plants. Finland and the other Nordic countries have invested heavily in clean energy production. Among the various energy production methods, solar and wind power generate electricity with very low emissions. Compared with other widely used energy production methods, solar and wind power produce electricity at a very low cost. Low enough electricity prices make it possible to produce heat economically using electricity. This master’s thesis was conducted to investigate the economic feasibility of electric district heating production methods in Finnish district heating systems. The costs of electric district heating production methods were compared with those of a biomass boiler using wood chips as fuel. The production costs of the different methods were modelled based on their capital and operating costs. This resulted in levelized production costs (€/MWh) tied to a specific point in time, which were compared both directly and in terms of their cost structure, sensitivity analysis and standard deviation. Based on the production cost modelling, electric heating methods are cost-effective solutions for district heating production and, in many cases, are more economically viable than biomass boilers. However, careful consideration must be given to their annual utilization times. In the future, electric district heating production methods are expected to reduce the costs for district heating in Finland. They will still require energy companies to make substantial investments.
