The paper is to discuss affective commitment to an organization, and the non-financial methods of motivation to increase the level of commitment. According to the results of the study, incentives that enhance the level of commitment include self-development, changing of job tasks and appreciation of one’s work performance. The paper also discusses the relationship between affective commitment and innovativeness, showing they share a positive connection. The study focused on key knowledge workers, whose commitment to the organization had the highest significance for the organization’s operation and profitability. The phenomenon was primarily examined by statistical methods. The theory was tested empirically with the doctors in the Kymenlaakso Hospital District, representing special competence within the public sector.
